WINDTRE BUSINESS CHOSEN BY NAIS FOR 5G SOLUTIONS IN URBAN ENVIRONMENT
WINDTRE BUSINESS and the MALIBU project industry grouping are collaborating on the implementation of a series of operational services aimed at improving the efficiency of road defect surveillance and monitoring systems in urban contexts. The initiative is part of the MALIBU project, co-funded to the European Space Agency under the ARTES 4.0 Business Applications - Space Solutions programme.
The MALIBU project idea stems from the common need of municipalities and companies responsible for road monitoring and maintenance to promptly detect surface defects such as potholes and cracks, in order to guarantee road users adequate standards of safety and driving comfort.
The initiative, which started in February 2023, bases its innovativeness on the joint use of technologies for the automatic detection of road surface defects in urban areas, such as Machine Learning and the Global Road Navigation System, and for the monitoring of air quality along the city stretches covered by Rome's ATAC public transport system, through the installation of dedicated sensors.
WINDTRE BUSINESS will enable a dedicated road monitoring service called MALIBU RCM (Road Condition Monitoring), thanks to the ubiquity and robustness of its 5G mobile network . The solution leverages on machine learning and data transmission tools that are acquired through secure, low-latency and appropriately monitored ultrabroadband links. WINDTRE BUSINESS with this agreement confirms its role as a reference player for companies and public administrations for the development of secure infrastructures and innovative solutions, perfectly integrated in WINDTRE's 5G network.
